We have come up with the latest data from Global web index; which illustrates the most actively used social media in 2012. Twitter has grown at 40% from Q2 to Q4 in 2012 making it the fastest growing social network in the world.

Twitter lagged behind Google+ in terms of number of active users since Q2 2012. Though the growth rate is higher for Twitter, but it still remains behind G+ in terms of absolute numbers.

Many with agree with us – how Google is deliberately making G+ part of peoples’ normal interaction with all Google’s services. At close No 3 is youtube. Though it would be an interesting to investigate to see how many active G+ users are also active YouTube account holders.
Twitter grew 40% to 288m across 31 markets (approximately 90% of global internet population). That means 21% of the global internet population now use Twitter actively on a monthly basis. Compare this to 21% users who are actively using YouTube, 25% actively using Google+ and a 51% using Facebook on a monthly basis. This is first time Twitter has seen such a tremendous growth rate. Certainly Twitter is the best way to break news to the world; debate publicly and build buzz around your brand. The big question is: Are you using Twitter effectively?
